Deirdre Holcroft holds a PhD in postharvest physiology from University of California Davis as well MSc and BSc degrees in horticulture from University of KwaZulu Natal. From a farming background in Zimbabwe, she went on to study and work in several countries before settling in France. After 20 years’ experience in both industry (AgroFresh/Dow AgroSciences and Dole Fresh Vegetables), and academia (University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, and Michigan State University, USA), Deirdre started Holcroft Postharvest Consulting in 2011. She specializes in the postharvest handling of fruits, vegetables, fresh-cut produce and flowers with an emphasis on reducing food waste, and improving quality, shelf-life, and profitability. Her advice is based on sound scientific principles tempered by experience.
