IFTEX Nairobi

Annually, the International Flower Trade Fair (IFTEX), a trade event organised for the international flower trade industry is held in Nairobi, Kenya. After being postponed twice due to COVID-19 related restrictions for the past two years, the 2022 edition is finally going to happen soon. From 30th May to 1st June, InspiraFarms will join hundreds of other exhibitors at Visa Oshwal Community Centre in Nairobi (Kenya.) We welcome any participants to visit our stand C3.03 at any time to meet our team of cold chain experts.

In 2020, the flower industry earned about 108.7 billion shillings (983 million U.S. dollars) for Kenya, accounting for a predominant contribution to Kenya’s agricultural exports. demonstrating the high value industry. The Royal Floral Holland (RFH) in the Netherlands is a world-famous flower wholesale market, that handles trade of flowers from all over the world, and quite a few flowers are sourced from East Africa, with the region being famous for cut flower exports. Based on this, the sector is highly valuable sector, to the economy of the nation.

Cut flowers are highly sensitive to temperature, hence, exporters require established cold chain to supply cut flowers from farms in far East Africa to the world. Throughout the point of picking, to the point of export and domestic markets, temperature control is important at each stage.  Flowers are often shipped from the farm to the airport within 48 hours after picking, and good quality cooling within this period is important to minimise deterioration, maintaining temperature between 2 to 6 degrees Celsius throughout all processes. All this to say, the Kenya Floriculture Market is growing at a CAGR of 5.1% over the next 5 years, and the need for good quality cold chain is increasing more now than ever.
